Abimbola Abiona is a seasoned finance professional and Chartered Accountant with extensive experience spanning audit, corporate finance, treasury management, financial control, and strategic business leadership. Throughout his distinguished career, he has worked across professional practice, banking, and corporate organizations, bringing a unique blend of technical expertise and commercial insight to every engagement. Abimbola Abiona holds a First Class Honours degree in Accounting from the University of Ife (1987) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Finance from the University of Lagos (1993/1994). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Following his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, he joined the international accounting firm Deloitte Adetona Isichei & Co. in 1988 as a Trainee Accountant and Audit Junior. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 and was promoted to Audit Senior in January 1990.

During his time in professional practice, he participated in the planning and execution of audit, taxation, and accountancy assignments for several leading organizations, including First Bank Plc, Afribank Nigeria Plc, and Nigerian Bottling Company Plc (Coca-Cola).

  • Joined Devcom Merchant Bank as part of a strategic team tasked with standardizing the bank’s information systems and operational processes.
  • Served in Corporate Finance with responsibilities covering Leasing and Syndication activities.
  • Completed International Treasury training at American Express Bank, London.
  • Established and developed the International Treasury Department upon returning from specialized training.
  • Held key leadership positions including Head of Leasing & Syndication and Financial Controller.
  • Served as Chief Finance Officer at Germaine Auto Centre.
  • Held senior financial leadership responsibilities within the Bi-Courtney Group.
